SCORPIONS

Scorpions are nocturnal, meaning they like to hunt at night.  Outdoors during the day, scorpions hide in burrows or debris, under wood, stones, or tree bark, and under floors of homes in crawl spaces.  They come out in early spring and will tend to go inside a home the hotter it gets outside.

Scorpions can get inside buildings through plumbing, open gaps in doors, vents to the attic, cracks in the foundation, or in between the wall siding where the foundation meets. For this reason, prevention is a good, natural method of scorpion pest control. Check weather stripping around doors and make sure there are no gaps.

Try to keep shoes off the ground when left outside.  Make sure that trees and bushes are cut back away from your home. Also, if you have woodpiles or clutter anywhere near the house, it’s a good idea to get rid of them since they serve as ideal places for scorpions. These arachnids naturally like to keep out of the sun by hiding beneath objects.

WIND SCORPIONS

The wind scorpion can vary in size from ¼ inch to as big as 2 ¾ of an inch.  They get their name because they can run “like the wind” and they can be aggressive.  Their bites are not venomous, but they can be very painful. Wind scorpions are also called Sunspiders. They are not technically a spider but are in the arachnid family. They are nocturnal, but sometimes do their hunting during the daylight as they are attractive to light.
